With My M1 Mac mini Reaching the 3 Year Mark, It Might Be Time To Start Looking At Upgrading… Preferably, the M2 Mac Studio

I’ve been working on a Mac mini M1 machine for nearly three years. I was amazed at how powerful this $600 mini box was compared to my M1 MacBook Pro that I use for work. It’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it with no issues or problems… until recently. The past couple of months I’ve been doing a lot of video editing work, and I must admit, the layers upon layers of 4K footage have pushed my Mac mini to the edge. Even though it manages its standard 16GB of memory very nicely, video editing (preferably Adobe After Effects) takes a ton of memory to run smoothly. I’ve had to do some weird workarounds to get the jobs done.

So I think it’s time to upgrade my workstation. I was thinking about going for another Mac mini with maybe one of the Ultra M chips, but I realized I need a lot more ports and maybe a chance to upgrade down the line. I still need to do my research. The entry-level model clocks in at about $2000…. a lot of money! But it might be worth it. Taking the headache away from doing workarounds to free up memory would be totally great.
