When it comes to the end of the year, comic books become slim pickings. We’re smack in the middle of the holiday season and normally nothing groundbreaking happens for releases, so you take what you can get. I love this time because it gives me time to catch up on a lot of stuff I missed… mostly DC books. There’s a ton of Batman stuff I need to catch up on, so I’m good to keep it slow, knowing that major events will start pouring in early next year.
Still, we got some treats sprinkled in this week. Marvel quietly released four books that tie into theĀ Gang War status quo… basically a ban on vigilantes in New York, passed by former Mayor, Kingpin. Solid books by both Moon Knight and Captain America dropped. But I had to give the edge to the Spider-book filled with vampire stomping action and a guess spot from the Blade family:
Comic of The Week:
Miles Morales: Spider-man #12
To be honest, I haven’t been too on board with Cody Ziglar’s run on this book. I think some of the previous writers had a better take on Miles Morales’ voice (notably, Brian Bendis, and Saladin Ahmed). But I’m really starting to come around to Ziglar’s penning with this “Bad Blood” story-arc, featuring Blade and his daughter Bloodline. Partha Pratim’s are is PERFECT for this book, emphasizing A LOT of action and contact motion. I don’t know how, but every character has that cool anime/manga style and lends itself to the dark and gritty Brooklyn streets. Pratim has been on this book for the Bad Blood arc, and if they continue on after the arc is over, the book will surely become on of my ‘must pulls’ each month.
