A nice crop of comics this week. We got the typical new X-Men and Venom War comics. And in the aftermath of “Absolute Power, I’m looking at putting a little more work into DC comics, since their “All-In” intiative suggests a jumping on point for readers. I really enjoyed Batman #153 last week so i’ll put that book at the top of my list. And Superman drops this week so i’ll take a closer look at that book. But of course, HOW COULD THERE BE ANY OTHER BOOK THIS WEEK HOLDING THE TOP SPOT:
Comic Book of The Week:
Absolute Batman #1
Snyder / Dragotta
Anytime DC relaunches or reboots their comic line with a new initiative, I plan on giving it a shot in the hopes of sparking some type of interest in their books. When i first saw the concept art of the upcoming Absolute Batman, i was a little indifferent. The artwork was highly stylized.. almost playing in the manga space.. which is a style i don’t normally touch. But there was A LOT of hype behind this new Scott Snyder book (and Snyder’s last stint on Batman was so damn good), I thought to give a shot. Man.. i was not prepared for the pages inside of this book.
Absolute Batman reimagines the Dark Knight in an thrilling new way, blending Snyder’s signature dark storytelling with Dragotta’s dynamic and kinetic art style. The story thrusts Batman into a high-stakes conspiracy, where Gotham City faces an apocalyptic threat that forces Bruce Wayne to confront not only his greatest enemies but also his own internal demons. Snyder crafts a fresh narrative filled with psychological depth, exploring Batman’s relentless drive to protect Gotham at any cost. The plot is packed with fast-paced action as Batman battles through increasingly dangerous adversaries, from street-level thugs to powerful forces that test his physical and mental limits.
What makes this new Absolute Batman stand out is Dragotta’s kinetic and action-packed artwork. Every page is bursting with motion, as the panels flow with a sense of constant movement and urgency. From chase scenes across Gotham’s rooftops to brutal hand-to-hand combat, Dragotta captures the raw intensity of Batman’s struggle. The art emphasizes sharp, fluid lines and dynamic poses, creating a cinematic feel that immerses readers in the action. Together, Snyder and Dragotta deliver a fresh, adrenaline-fueled take on the Caped Crusader that pushes Batman to his limits.
