Man… what a week! First off, Marvel does a book-wide memoriam to super penciler/inker/artist John Cassaday who passed away recently. He was a top tier artist who’s comics he drew were like ‘events’ to me. His run with Joss Whedon on Astonishing X-Men stand out in my brain.
Comic Book of The Week:
The Ultimates #6
Camp / Feigeri / Blee
Wow… I took 6 issues to get here, and…. WOW! To say this book as been a slow burn is an understatement. the first 5 issues mainly dealt with assembling the Ultimates before The Maker’s return, and to be honest i was getting a little impatient. But it all starts to pop off in this issue.
So the current roster of The Ultimates finally get a chance to ‘assemble’ to go on a rescue mission, and they end up in Kun-Lun again The Ultimate Iron-Hulk and THE IMMORTAL WEAPONS OF THE HULK! And we get to bare witness to the Hulk and his crew delivering the biggest beatdown on the Ultimates. It proves that they are inexperienced and not ready to fully deal with The Maker’s Counsil. With only Twelve months before The Maker returns from being ‘time-locked’, the Ultimates suffer their greatest defeats… and lose one of the thier solders!
If I ever doubted Camp’s writing anbilty, that i over and done. This issue was all action and Frigeri’s are was spot-on. I can’t say much more about it or i’ll give away alot of the goodness. Excellent read.
