This was a nice Marvel-only week of pulls. We got a nice crop of Spider books, a new volume of Ghost-Spider Gwen Stacy starting, more solid issue of Black Widow/Hawkeye and Ultimate Black Panther, and I got pick up couple trades I’ve been lacking: “Fear Itself”, and Fabian Nicieza’s run on 2021’s “Juggernaut: Can’t Be Stopped”. But after just seeing the cover of this book, I predicted (successfully) that this book would be my pick of the week:
Comic Book of The Week:
The Spectacular Spider-Men #3
Weisman / Ramos
All I need to do is see the Humberto Ramos-drawn covers every month and I immediately know I’m going to at least enjoy the visuals of The Spectacular Spider-men. But thankfully, Greg Weisman seems to always come through on this book. Cleverly titled “Meantime…” Issue 3 throws us into the story without any clue of what’s going on. But we get parellel panels of Peter and Miles’ recent past and present as we try to decipher whats’ going. The story leads us straight to the end of issue #2 as we find out the supervillains behind the Spider-mens’ curious past and dream-like happy present.
Weisman’s storytelling is still top-notch and you can feel how he’s staring to gel with Ramos’ pencil work. I’ve never been a guy to highlight a comic’s color work, but I’m really impressed with Edgar Delgado’s handling with Ramos’ artwork. All in all—a very intriguing story with 2 villain reveals that open up a ton of possibilities for the future issues of this story.
