The week was a small list. But nearly all of the issues were enjoyable. The new Black Widow/Hawkeye limited series has started with a bang.. plus it’s good to see Natasha still sporting the red and black symbiote. Another great issue of Ultimate Black Panther amps up the fight against the terrorist organization known as Moon Knight. Duggan drops the third issue of “Fall of The House of X” and Wolverine continues the Sabertooth War. But of course… How can Chip Zdarsky drop another issue of Avengers Twilight and it not be my pick of the week?
Comic Book of The Week:
Avengers Twilight #4
Zdarsky / Acuna
In this alternate fascist future of the Marvel Universe, a reinvigorated Captain America continues to reform the Avengers using old friends, as well as new heroes. At the end of last issue, a failed rescue of what’s left of Tony Stark was saved by the arrival of Kamala Khan (the former Ms. Marvel) and (what looks like) King Thor. So the Marvel Trinity and friends set out to do what they do best… save lives and show the country what it’s all about to be a hero. But now they know that The Red Skull runs the country and has a plan to take over the Government and its military.
As always Zdarsky’s story is a slow burn, but very engaging. Just seeing the interactions between Steve, Tony, and Thor is worth the price of admission. And as usual, Daniel Acuña’s art is nothing to sneeze at. The feels like the penultimate issue. I don’t know. But we ended this issue with The Red Skull (assisted by Ultron) being ready to go to war. I can’t wait for the next issue!
