Works of crazy this week, so I got into my pull list a little late this week. And this week i focused on the latest issues and tie-ins to the Marvel Blood Hunt event, and some back issues of Deadpool. There’s a couple issues of DC stuff in there too, but after what I read from Captain America, Sam Wilson in this weeks top pick, I’m all on board with Marvel’s vampire invasion. So, of course, this week’s pick of the week is..
Comic Book of The Week:
THE Ultimates #1
MacKAY / Larraz / Garcia
As we reach reach the mid-point of Blood Hunt, Jed MacKay keep the tried-and-true method of comic event storytelling and gets us to the rally point. The vampires have taking their shot and the good guys have been dealt one hell of a blow, but this is where the Avengers shine in these events. This is where they start showcasing their namesake. Blade turns out to be the mastermind behind the vampire invasion and almost has everything he needs. The remaining core heroes of Captain Marvel, Captain America Dr. Strange, Clea, Tigra, Vision and Iron Man have a plan plan. I’ve been a little critical on MacKay’s run. His roster is stacked, but they haven’t seemed to utilize their strengths. But this seems to be the rally point. We get one of the coolest “fourth down and goal” speeches from Sam Wilson… that’s rivals that of Steve Rogers. This is the ‘dark before the dawn’ dawn issue, and after Sam’s speech, i’m am extremely hyped for the last two issues”
Things are bad, I know. Like all of you, weve been fighting the vampires since the sun went out. Like all of you, weve been hurt, been bled, have lost. But weve been here before. And we’re still here. This world has seen evil, time and time again. Aliens. Monsters. Tyrants. Madmen. Those who would take our free. Our freedom. Our lives. And every time, we the people of planet earth, told them: “NO”. When the cotati came here, we told them, “no.” when knull came here, we told him, “NO.” when hydra took over, we told them, “NO.” when Galactus came here? “NO.” If you want our home, you’ll have to fight for it. If you want our world, you’ll have to take it. If you want our blood, you’ll have to pay for every drop. And if you take our lives…we will be avenged. We will avenge the dead. We will protect the living. Because those are the things we owe you when we call ourselves avengers. Things are bad. But as long as we have breath in our lungs, as long as we have hope in our hearts, we will tell the vampires the same thing we told all the others: “NO.”
