Marvel’s street-level Gang War continues with 3 more tie-ins. The mutant Fall of The House of X storyline brought you the “That Fall” last week,q and now continues with The Rise of The Power of X. A new volume of Ultimate Spider-man launches a new number one. And Wolverine kicks off The Sabertooth War. But my pick of the week goes to what’s possibly my favorite book out right now:
Comic Book of The Week:
The Avengers #9
This week, we get the third installment of Twilight Dreaming as we kick off round two of The Avengers’ battle with The Twilight Court. I can’t put my finger on it, but MaKay’s run on The Avengers has been a fresh take on the team while keeping the stakes elevated. MaKay does a great job of narrating pages and making the Avengers feel like the premier team of Marvel. He has a simple formula. Introduce a new major threat, have them thrash the Avengers, and then rally back at the last minute. It may not sound like much, but it’s a formula that works. Again, hats off to Francisco Mortarino’s pencils and Bederico Blee’s color.
