This was a hardest list to build for me. The truth is I don't listen to "albums" anymore. Back in the day, when you purchased an album from your favorite artists, it was like an event. You'd expect to have an experience-- listen to the music take you on a journey from start to finish. And if you didn't have to skip over any joints, that was an epic win. But the state of the business, thanks to streaming release have been about bundling 3 or 4 singles with a bunch of other content. These days it's all about the…
Benny's Got A Gun
It's that time of year again. This was a good year for my type of music. This playlist clocks in at 179 songs and all of them are bangers. Enjoy. My favorite song of the year isn't in the playlist below because Black Star didn't release their 2022 album "No Fear of Time" on streaming services. So it's listed below as a separate stream

Best of The Rest
Terrible 2's
With Drill and Trap music the dominant forms of rap music currently, it takes a little work to dig beneath the surface and find golden gems that represent the Boom Bap era. The Hip Hop 50 series will have multiple volumes, each being produced by a different iconic producer.
Who else could be the franchise starter than DJ Premier. Bringing together some lyrical legends for his 5-episode opus (Nas, Run The Jewels, Remy Ma, Rhapsody, Lil Wayne, Joey Bada$$, and Slick Rick) onto of classic Boom Bap beats. Premo is the perfect producer to set this off. This is one of…
Timeless (A COLORS SHOW version)
I love the fact that tucked away within all the trap-soul and rap-inspired drill-rhythm music that passes for R&B music these days, there are still artists making soul music feels... well... soulful. The new cut by Amber Lucid feels so open and airy which drums that sound like they came from the DJ Premier drumkit and orchestral strings that would make John Williams feel happy. This is definitely my song of the moment.

The Loop
Didn't really know about this cat until he popped up in my Tiktok feed. Nice flow and he knows how to pick beats. A nice balance of boom bap, lo-fi and modern styles. Dope material.
Telepathy (feat. Blake Anthony)
Catchy uptempo tune. I usually like her on the slower neo-style joints, but this one hits me the right way.
I usually don't care for halftime shows during the Super Bowl. I grew up when 'Season Halftime Highlights' were what you watched in the middle of the game. But when I heard Dr. Dre would be doing the halftime show with 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige, Kendrick Lamar (with Anderson .Paak) and Enimem, I couldn't help but get excited. The crew delivered big time. It's gotta be up there with one of the best halftime shows of all time.
Summer League (feat. Planet Asia)
After 2 incredile years of music, 2022 was starting off a little light in my opinion. That is, until 9th Wonder dropped the full length collaboration with The Musalini. For me, it the first dope hip-hop project of the year.
