In a gleaming new world of prosperity, Captain America is no more. But Steve Rogers still exists, floating through an America where freedom is an illusion, where THE AVENGERS are strangers and his friends are long dead. But is the Dream? How do you assemble Avengers in a world that doesn’t want them? PLUS: A behind-the-scenes look at the making of this issue!
It's no secret that I wasn't a big fan of the X-Men's "Krakoan Age". I loved Jonathan Hickman's introduction with HoX/Pox, but afterward, there were too many books to follow and even the main book Hickman was writing didn't 'feel' like Hickman. So when I saw that the 'Fall of X' was happening I was trying to jump back in. Granted, I did collect a lot of comics from this age, including X-Men, X-Force, and Wolverine for later reading, but I'm ready to reset everything and get the mutants back to being hated and fear.
Being one of the most anticipate MCU movies in the pipeline, little is known about The Thunderbolts movie. Luckily, YouTuber Screen Culture as put together a nice teaser trailer to wet our whistle.
When I first heard that one of my favorite comic writers, Jonathan Hickman was taking over the direction for Marvel's X-Men, I was over the moon. He'd previously done legendary runs on The Fantastic Four and The Avengers, so it was only right that he reinvigorate the X-Men line of comics that (at the time) had become stagnant and directionless. He solidified his dominance by elevating comic lines by writing the 2 incredible limited series House of X and Power of X. There was no doubt this was going to be another legendary run... or so I thought.
But then The Krakoan…
When Marvel announced last year that a limited series based on the hugely popular comic storyline, Secret Invasion would be coming the Disney+, the speculation started running wild. All the pieces were coming together. The Skrulls were introduced into the MCU in Captain Marvel, which would include pivotal characters from the comic, there was a possibility of recently dead characters being revealed to be Skrulls meant there was a chance we could get them back, and it was a possibility it could be leading into the next huge Marvel event on the horizon. but let's be honest.. announcing that it…
This June, superstar creators Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch launch an all-new Marvel Comics epic that takes Ultimate Comics in a shocking new direction.
In this video, Owen explains the history of House of X/Powers of X, and how Jonathan Hickman revitalized the X-Men and transformed them for a new generation.
Book of the week: Batman/Spawn #1
Let's be honest.. I bought this book strictly on the nostalgia of seeing Batman and Spawn on a cover with the names "McFarlane" and "Capullo" at the bottom. The last time we got a crossover with these two, it was in 1994, which was drawn by Todd McFarlane and written by the great Frank Miller. But the duo of McFarlane and Capullo ran on the Spawn comic for years, and those were the years I read Spawn religiously. I can't tell you anything about the plot. To be honest, I haven't even "read" this…
Book of the week: Devil's Reign #6
Chip Zdarsky brings a close to Devil's Reign, his incredible 2 years storyline of Daredevil blaming himself for the death of a criminal, and the fallout that followed. Matt brings an end to The Kingpin's entire as the Mayor of New York with the help of the rest of the Marvel superhero community. I'd never been a big reader of Daredevil until Chip's run. Even though some of my favorite creators had their run with the hero, this is the first time a story just captured me from the first issue. The best…
I've always been a fan of Sam Wilson.. even with his early ridiculous blaxploitation outfit. He when he finally got to wear the shield, he leveled up BIG TIME. I've read Rick Remender's 2015 All New Captain America in limited series a dozen times and it's still pretty awesome. Nick Spenser took Sam in the direction of a social justice warrior, keeping him fighting for the streets and pushing back against a more fascist agenda.. not as awesome but still cool. And then Secret Empire dropped and the fact that Captain America was a agent of Hydra broke same and forced him to step…
Even though the quality of CW's DC superhero shows is diminishing, they still seem to be doubling down on that corner. With the exception of the newer series Stargirl and the excellent Superman & Louis, their shared universe of shows has considerably dipped in quality. With Arrow, Black Lightning, and Supergirl all canceled, the CW is fighting to fit new shows into those slots and regain that first surge of rating juggernauts they started out with. The newest candidate is Naomi which is based on the 2019 limit series written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by David Walker.
With Naomi, Bendis pretty much sticks the tried and…
