So there I was — sitting in a hush-hush meeting with the top 4 execs of an $800 million company, helping shape the visuals and messaging for a huge client announcement. Honestly, it should’ve felt like a proud moment. I mean, these were powerful, seasoned leaders hanging on my words because they trusted my work. They’d seen what I could do, and they were counting on me. But instead of feeling confident… I was terrified.

In my head, I kept thinking, “This is it. This is the moment they realize I have no idea what I’m doing.” Never mind the 20 years of experience, the happy clients, the accolades — none of it seemed to matter in that moment. I felt like a total fraud, like I’d somehow stumbled my way into all of this and was finally about to be found out.

That’s the thing about impostor syndrome — it doesn’t care how much you’ve accomplished. It sneaks in and tells you none of it is real.

Imposter syndrome is that nagging feeling like you don’t really belong or deserve the success you’ve had — like you’ve somehow tricked everyone into thinking you’re good at what you do. Even when there’s proof you’ve earned your spot, it can feel like you're just waiting to be “found out.” It hits especially hard in creative fields, where everything’s so subjective and it’s easy to second-guess yourself.

Logically, it sounds kind of silly, right? But imposter syndrome is something so many of us deal with — not just creatives, but professionals across all kinds of fields. And one of the best ways to deal with it is just by talking about it. Once you realize you’re not the only one feeling this way, it gets easier to handle.

If you’re trying to understand it better (or just want to feel less alone in it), here are a few things that might help.

And If you’ve ever struggled with impostor syndrome, especially in a creative role, I’d love to hear how you deal with it.
