Marvel’s The Punisher Blew Me Away

Marvel’s The Punisher Blew Me Away

When I heard that Netflix was developing a solo series for The Punisher after he accolades for the character in the second season of Daredevil, I was excited and concerned at the same time. It felt like they were rushing production, similar to Iron Fist. When companies do this to cash in on the popularity, it usually comes with a lackluster story. The Punisher has his issues, but overall it’s fantastic.

Jon Bernthal turns Frank Castle into a 3-dimensional character who you morally have to hate and love at the same time. He’s playing the character as an amalgamation os Frank Miller’s and Garth Ennis’ run on the comic book. The world Steve Lightfoot builds inside Marvel’s superhero Cinematic Universe is dark and gritty and real, at the same time littering the background with elements to remind you-you’re still in the world of The Avengers. The Netflix original finds a way to sneak into the top ten series of the year late in the game.
