A Mind-Bending Police Thriller Told In Reverse. Rellik Is British TV At Its Best

Even though I enjoyed 2000’s Memento, I really wasn’t hat much of a fan of the whole ‘told in reverse’ narrativeSo when I started watching the first episode of the new BBC One crime thriller Rellik, I wasn’t planning on making through the entire episode. But there’s just something about the grittiness of Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones, Fortitude) and the intense, sexappeal of Jodi Balfour (Quarry, Bomb Girls). Throw in the excellent Paterson Joseph (Timeless, Peep Show) as a pervy Psychiatrist and you got one hell of a cast carrying out a pretty original story.

The story is shown in reverse, starting when the suspect has recently been caught and then moving backwards in sections to finish at the beginning. The period of time backwards is shown each time on the screen.

S.W.O.R.D. Is Upon Us In Season 5 Of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I have to admit, the promos for the 5th season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. look a little weak sauce. With a more ‘out there’ direction, the move to Fridays and an amp’d up tone to appeal more to the Thor: Ragnoral / Guardians of The Galaxy audience these promos feel more like a cry of desperation than a bigger scope for the show. The lead in of Marvel’s Inhumans doesn’t help any either. I’m ‘hoping’ that the light content for the December 1st premier is ABC and Marvel trying to keep a lid on the season’s details to surprise us. I’m anticipating the introduction of Agent Brand and S.W.O.R.D., a clone of S.H.I.E.D. that deals with off-world threats.

I think the problem with this show still remains.. the scope of SH.I.E.L.D.’s missions seem to be growing. Since they’re not suppose to exist anymore, why aren’t any of the super-powered heroes in this Universe looking into these threats? Why isn’t Iron Man or Doctor Strange on top of Kree Gods trying to exterminate the planet, or wy aren’t the Avengers looking into the rise of Inhumans popping up across the globe. At first glance, having all of Marvel’s Avenger-based movie, tv and streaming shows all in the same cinematic universe seems like a stroke of genius. But with the need to escalate threats on the global scale means it would only be logical for these properties to interact.. a lot more than Maria Hill popping up on a screen from time to time.

Having said all that? I’m still looking for to this season of AoS.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Is Upon Us

Judging from the latest batch of trailer, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will be this trilogy’s Empire Strikes Back. There’s a lot of Sith activity and some serious dark side temptation pointed in Rey’s direction. Throw in the release of Battlefront II’s release with the Janina Gavankar led storyline, the end of 2017 might be a victory for the bad guys.

The New Story Mode Will Make Me Buy Star Wars: Battlefront 2

I bought the first Star Wars Battlefront then it first came out, mainly on nostalgia and a love for the franchise. But After a few online games and some attempts at flying the Millennium Falcon, i kinda let it fall from the wayside. What I was looking for was something that gave me that same feeling I got from Knights of The Old Republic. Even though I don’t think BF-2 will give me that, the story, starring uber-nerd/uber-hottie Janina Gavankar looks pretty damn dope. A story about what happens after the destruction of the second Death Star is very intriguing. It might be worth a $60 purchase.

Marvel Takes The Horror Route For
Their Next X-Men Franchise Film:
The New Mutants

This whole fragmented pieces of the Marvel Mutant Universe sucks. Finally, Fox is letting the creators do some good work with Deadpool, Logan, Legion and most recently The Gifted. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of confusion about if any or all of these mutant properties are connected in any way. Its hard not to imagine the possible crossovers. Legion was for a time a member of The New Mutants, and Deadpool’s first comic book appearance was in The New Mutants issue #98. We can only hope. I’ll just be glad that The New Mutants have shown up.

Once Again, I’m Hooked On The Awesomeness That Is WWE 2K18

Every year, WWE and 2K Games puts out a new wrestling game that’s ‘slightly’ better the previous year, and again I buy it. It’s become a tradition for me. This year’s suppose to sport a new graphics engine, deeper MyCareer and Universe Modes and the biggest roster in history. All of that is true… and I love it. Some may feel WWE 2K18 is a rehash of year past. And they might be right. But who cares. The game if fun. The updated roster alone is enough for me to buy this game and enjoy it for the year to come.

I Can’t Believe I’m Going To Say This…
I Can’t Wait for Justice League

Personally I feel like DC and Warner Bros. are on a crusade to get my $10 on the opening night of the Justice League movie. After the lackluster Batman v Superman, I regulated the DC Cinematic Universe from ‘must see‘ to ‘see it when I see it‘. Even after the excellent Wonder Woman solo film, I am still a little weary of Zack Snyder’s superhero vision.

And then Joss Whedon was brought in to massage a few things while Snyder to step back for personal reasons. And then there were reshoots. And then there were more personable interactions and personality shown from the characters. I’m not saying Synder didn’t already have this in the film, but under Whedon’s direction, they seem to finally be showing something more than the grey palette doom and gloom from previous films. The first teaser/trailer tried to give a more light touch, but it came off as a little cardboard.

Now jump to the newest trailer, and it feels less like an assembly of heavily CG’d footage, and more of a team origin story. We still got that doom and gloom, but we also get to see splashes of color and the look of hope on the heroes faces. Throw in a small scene of Clark Kent (who dead, seems to feel more like Superman with two lines, than he did in the last two movies). All in all, I will be going to see this stupid film on opening day. Somehow, DC and Warner Bros. got me at the last second. I’m preying this will be launching pad for a hopeful phase 2 in DC’s movie franchise. Time to watch his trailer again…
