In Origin, a chilling new original series from the producers of The Crown & Lost, we meet a group of troubled passengers as they wake up on a damaged spaceship abandoned in deep space. Each having left behind a dark past in search of a fresh start on a newly colonised planet, they’re desperate to survive at all costs. But as their terrifying situation spirals into paranoia, they come to realize that the greatest threat to their dream of starting over – and indeed their lives – might actually be within their midst…
Colony on the USA Network has been a guilty pleasure on the backburner since it started. With season 3, they’ve rebooted the show from a grim Walking Dead style show to an occupation mystery. The new Seattle holds some interesting secrets and I’m hoping the payoff will be worth the watch.
Relying less on action and more on teen angst, the Freeform Network series Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger are turning out to be one of the better comic book adaptations on the air. Instead of the tired and true formula of ‘get powers, fight crime’, Cloak and Dagger is taking it’s time to build the narrative of the lead characters. They both have demons they’re fighting as well and personal injustices that they each need to face… and they’ll only be able to face those injustices together. It’s slow but very satisfying.
Even though the first season of Marvel’s Luke Cage was pretty damn good, the death of Cottonmouth and the tonal change for the second half of the season really did cripple its awesomeness. Hopefully, the showrunners have learned their lesson and will let Black Mariah take center stage in Season 2. Judging by the previous footage, their borrowing story from Brian Bendis’ excellent 2016 comic The Defenders.. replacing Diamondback with obscure comic villain The Bushmaster. That’s cool. He looks dope as hell.
