The Rain Gives The Young Adult Drama A 28 Days Later Twist

The Rain Gives The Young Adult Drama A 28 Days Later Twist

There have been numerous attempts to reinvent the zombie apocalypse trope. Netflix’s The Rain tweaks the scenario a bit by making a man-made germ distributed by rainfall. I’ve only seen the first few episodes but what I’ve seen so far is pretty damn good. Can’t really comment on the acting due to the Scandinavian show being dubbed into English. But the plot and intrigue are there. With only 8 episodes in the season and a second season greenlit by Netflix, The Rain might be at the top of my list of TV shows for 2018. The Rain is not showing on Netflix.

The world as we know it has come to an end, due to a rain-carried virus that wiped out nearly everybody in Scandinavia. Six years after that event, two Danish siblings emerge from the safety of the bunker where they have been staying. After discovering all remnants of civilization gone, they join a group of fellow young survivors, and together they head out on a danger-filled quest throughout the abandoned land in search of signs of life. The survivors think they have been set free from societal rules of the past, but they quickly find that even in a post-apocalyptic world there is love, jealousy and other coming-of-age dilemmas that young people have always faced.

Netflix Got It Right. Lost In Space Is Awesome

Netflix Got It Right. Lost In Space Is Awesome

I think one of the best things about sci-fi shows are reboots that get it right. Battlestar Galactica and 12 Monkeys are two perfect example. They took the essential pieces that made the originals good and built something new and exciting. I think I’d add Netflix’s Lost In Space to that list. If you’ve seen the cheesy 1965 tv show or the 1998 movie, you get the idea of the show. The 2018 version takes the premise of a family getting lost on their way to a new world, and expands on the plot. Season 1 is nice and compact, focusing less on planet hopping and dealing with the aftermath of the family’s mishap. Great casting and great pacing make the 10 episode binge fly by. Bravo, Netflix!

Season 2 of Jessica Jones Drops This Week

Season 2 of Jessica Jones Drops This Week

The wait is over! Kristen Ritter is back in the best that the Netflix/Marvel collabo has to offer, Jessica Jones. It looks like season 2 will deal with discovering her superpowered origins. We won’t have long to wait. It drops March 8th.

Season 2 of Netflix’s Luke Cage Is Upon Us

Season 2 of Netflix’s Luke Cage Is Upon Us

I hope this season is more consistent than the first. The loss of Cottonmouth midseason really hurt the flow of the show. But with the return of a superpowered Diamondback on the way, I hope they pull some good content from the recent Bendis comic run of The Defenders. Season 2 of Luke Cage drops June 22.

The First Official Trailer for Neflix’s Lost In Space Brings Hope

The First Official Trailer for Neflix’s Lost In Space Brings Hope

After the sneak peek teaser was released, I was moderately curious about Netflix’s reboot of the 1965 television series Lost In Space. I was one of the few fans of the 1998 movie. But after this trailer, I see they’re putting some serious weight into this show. Parker Posey as Dr. Smith will pretty damn interesting. There hasn’t been too much buzz about the show, which is a little alarming, but I have faith in Netflix. Their track record of bringing back classic shows is pretty good.

Netflix Is Bringing Bio-pict for Hip-Hop Legend Roxanna Shante

Netflix Is Bringing Bio-pict for Hip-Hop Legend Roxanna Shante

Wow. Shante is the last person I thought someone would do an autobiographical movie about. But come to think about it, in today’s climate, an uplifting movie about a female artist (at a time when rap didn’t really respect female artists) holding her own against the competition, being involved in one of the biggest rap battles of the early days, and coming out of it with a top-tier education is exactly what we need to see and know about. I can’t wait for this one.

The Post-Defenders Jessica Jones Is Back On The Case

The Post-Defenders Jessica Jones Is Back On The Case

It looks like we’re going to get to dive into the origin story of Jessica Jones when she returns for season 2 in April. I’m still perplexed at how Kristen Ritter embodies the character. I wasn’t sold on her in the role at first, being as huge fan of the early Jessica Jone comic, Alias. But she plays the role with a broken complexity that makes you cheer for her, even it it’s just getting through the day without shit happening to her.com
