Any fact facing us is not as important as our attitude toward it for that determines our success or failure. The way you think about a fact may defeat you before you ever do anything about it. You are overcome by the fact because you think you are.
The fifth and final season of Gotham is underway, and it looks like we just might get to see the Caped Crusader make his full, costumed appearance before it's all said and done. Now, for a show called Gotham, you might think a glimpse of Batman in a single episode would be pretty easy order to fulfill. After all, five seasons of watching young Bruce Wayne stand on the sidelines (for the most part) as his city morphs into a crime-ridden hellscape has been insanely frustrating.
Creativity is an energy. It's a precious energy, and it's something to be protected. A lot of people take for granted that they're a creative person, but I know from experience, feeling it in myself, it is a magic; it is an energy. And it can't be taken for granted.
As you navigate through the rest of your life be open to collaboration. Other people and other people's ideas are often better than your own. Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you spend a lot of time with them and it will change your life.
Your personal life, your professional life, and your creative life are all intertwined. I went through a few very difficult years where I felt like a failure. But it was actually really important for me to go through that. Struggle, for me, is the most inspirational thing in the world at the end of the day - as long as you treat it that way.
In order to create you have to believe in your ability to do so and that often means excluding whole chunks of normal life, and, of course, pumping yourself up as much as possible as a way of keeping on. Sort of cheering for yourself in the great football stadium of life.

You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.
