The Toddy Digital 2019 Rebranding is Finished

The Toddy Digital 2019 Rebranding is Finished

Every 9-12 months I like the pull my websites apart and rebrand to make things a lot tighter online. This year, I focused back on whitespace (http://todd.digital). I love the user experience of this blog so much I built everything around it. Actually my blog and writing sites were perfect. I just needed to pull back on my portfolio and music sites to fit with the overall feel. Load times are a little more snappier also, so that’s a plus.

The next phase will be some minor tweaking and fine-tuning content. I need to add some pieces to my portfolio and streamline the music to push the better stuff to the front. Overall, I’m very happy with my online presents.

My Cult of Mac Is Wearing Off

My Cult of Mac Is Wearing Off

For decades I’ve been blissfully existing the digital gated community that was the Apple Ecosystem. This closed universe wasn’t locked but slight throttled so that Apple could keep an eye on the quality of their hardware and software. And it’s been great. I wasn’t missing any of the ‘openness’  Windows and Android users claimed to have, because Apple Development did an excellent job of proving excellent services and connected to or replaced what was missing,.

But recently, little things have been catching up with the whole system. Nothing major, but nitpicky crap that have implanted the ideas of looking at other solutions outside of the Cult of Mac. The most recent thing, and probably the backbreaking straw is the search for a updated streaming box. I currently use a 2nd generation Apple TV as my primary digital hub. That’s for movies, tv shows, music a little bit of casual gaming. I have a 4K tv that I’ve rarely taken advantage of, so now I want a streaming box that’s compatible.

I immediately was looking at the Apple TV 4K because… you know.. It’s Apple. And sure, it’s a streaming box that’s almost $200 but that’s cool. Apple products have premium prices, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. It’s something Apple folks know. The thing that sent me over the edge was no Spotify app for iOS on Apple TV. This really pissed me off. I understand you’re trying to promote your own streaming server, Apple Music, but Tital had an app on the box, so why not the most popular streaming music app. That one omission costs them a $200 purchase. True I could’ve just airplayed from other devices, but it just seemed like unnecessary bullshit.

Doing a little more research, I came across the Amazon Fire TV Cube. It’s a $69 box with 4K compatibility, non remote voice control… AND A SPOTIFY APP! I purchased it this morning and it will be the first major piece of non-apple I’ve bought since the Xbox One first came out. This has brought doubt on blindly buying Apple hardware, so I’m looking at streaming speakers, connected watches and other technology outside of Apple ecosystem. I’m still all about MacBook Pros, iPhones and iPads, but the other smaller stuff might come from Samsung, Amazon and Google.

I’m Releasing A Trilogy of Favorite Produced Material

I’m Releasing A Trilogy of Favorite Produced Material

It’s crazy to think that I’ve been putting out my own music for over 20 years! Not to be a producer or anything like that. It was that compulsive need to create something and participate in the Hip-Hop lifestyle. So to celebrate that time, I’m releasing a PRIMER Trilogy of compilations. I’m grouping them under “Collaborations”, “Remixes” and my personal “Favorites”. If possible I want to remaster some older stuff to be more confident with my current material. I might even stick in some unreleased and/or soon to be released material. All three projects should drop before the end of the year. No release date yet. Whenever I feel like it. The cover art is done, tho. The love for Hip-Hop is a pure and beautiful thing. 🎧 🎚🎛

Officially Signing with Keakie.co.uk to Release Exclusive Mix Content

A lot of you have been following my mix shows for over a decade. After 10 years with flowink.com and a few more independently releasing on mixcloud, I’m excited to reveal I’ll be signing on with the music streaming site Keakie.co.uk to move and rebrand my four major shows (Prototype of Nu-Soul, The Background Flow, Return of the Boom Bap and Retro Rap) to Keakie’s platform. That will mean I won’t be posting much more to mixcloud for the foreseeable future. I will keep the current content up there and also, reposting old flowing mixes that never made it up for one reason or another. I’ll still be doing my show on RapTz Radio, naming it simply the Toddy Digital Show. I’m always curious and excited by change. I everyone that’s been riding with me will continue to support me and the movement on these platforms.

Dan Harmon Story Circle: 8 Proven Steps to Better Stories

Dan Harmon Story Circle: 8 Proven Steps to Better Stories

I love writing. Not as a profession, but as a way to satiate that creative hunger. I’ve currently writing a half dozen short stories, poems, scripts and novels simultaneously just to let my storytelling flag fly. I don’t have aspirations of publishing. Chances are they won’t be finished. It’s all about the process of creating new worlds and characters. I seriously believe it’s the closes thing to being a God. But the writing process can be difficult.. especially if you didn’t receive proper training. Granted, I took a few writing classes in high school and college (and got awesome praise for my content, thank you very much!), but I never really took it seriously as a way of life or a means to share what I create with others. But it’s very important to adopt structure in your writing to tell a proper, engaging story. Sometimes I just ‘free write’. That means I dive in without any ideas of what the story is, or where it’s going and just creating on the fly. I love it. It’s a great way to discover certain directions in a story that you’d never considered. But now I’m looking to try out some simple structure.

I found this Youtube video on Dan Harmon’s Story Circle; simple steps to building an engaging story. They use The Dark Knight as a point of reference which plays perfectly with the 8 steps. I don’t know what my next story will be, but I know I’ll be testing these steps.
