I think i’ve bought ever incarnation of the WWE flagship video game since WWF SmackDown! came out in 2000. Over the years (and with some setbacks), the professional wrestling simulator has gotten for life-like (ha ha ha ha ha) and feature-rich. Normally handled by game company THQ, but earlier this year they had to file for bankruptcy. Now in the hands of sports heavyhitter 2K Games, this year’s version, now called WWE 2K14, seems to be progressing without any hickups. Like the year before, it looks like it’ll be the same game with a new coat of paint and a few tweaks to the features and gameplay. I’m not complaining. No need to mess with perfection.. or at least a fun, playable system. The game drops October 29th.
I stopped caring about the Madden football franchise when they took out simulated seasons in Franchise Mode. I didn’t like playing. I liked managing the team and letting the game do the rest. The only reason I bought Madden 25 is they had it as a digital download on the same day it was released on disc. So I got it one late night hoping they put simulation back into Franchise mode. They didn’t. So I was forced to actually play. And oh boy, I’ve been hooked for about a week. I’m at the end of my first franchise season (on All-Pro level) with The Raiders and I’m undefeated. I don’t remember the gameplay being so balanced and fun. I’m gonna be riding Madden 25 for the next couple months… until WWE 2K14 drops in October.
I had no interest in getting the Playstation 4 or the Xbox One. I was content to wait a year for them to work all the kinks out and really get some good games going. And then I saw the trailer for the XBox One exclusive Dead Rising 3. And i will be dropping a crap-load of money on a new console in November.
I’ve never been a Assassin’s Creed person. I played the first for a few hours but it didn’t stick. Recently I decided to stop buying XBOX games on disc. I have 50 games taking up dust in my livingroom and that’s enough. I decided i will only play games that I can download from the XBOX Marketplace. Last week, XBOX had Assassin’s Creed II as a free download, so that was a no-brainer. I’ve been playing for about 3 hours and i’m hooked. I’m looking forward to playing Revelations and AC III right after.
