The Flash Course Corrects With An Awesome Season 5

The Flash Course Corrects With An Awesome Season 5

The last couple of seasons of The Flash have been a rut. But this season, even though the formula seems to be the same, it feels a little fresher. This is still the best of the CW/DC shows. Arrow still seems to be spinning its dark wheels, and Supergirl feels a little ‘lost at sea’ after the first couple of episodes. Maybe is the characters that makes The Speeder’s show stand out. All I know is it’s the only DC show I look forward to watching (and yes, I include Black Lightning in that group).

The Reign of The Supermen is Upon Us

The Reign of The Supermen is Upon Us

One of the most iconic times in comic history was the whole Death of Superman comic storyline back in the early 90’s. Are his apparent demise, four heroic characters surfaces to claim the mantle. A clone teenager, a cyborg, a metal man with a hammer and futuristic energy being. Are one of these Supermen the real Man of Tomorrow back from the dead? Or are they something much, much worse? Hopefully, the animated movie will stay close to the comics.

Quote of The Moment: Derren Brown

Each of us is leading a difficult life, and when we meet people we are seeing only a tiny part of the thinnest veneer of their complex, troubled existences. To practise anything other than kindness towards them, to treat them in any way save generously, is to quietly deny their humanity.

Uncovering Your Dead Wife’s Double Life in ITV’s Strangers

Uncovering Your Dead Wife’s Double Life in ITV’s Strangers

My wife started watching this show first, and tried to get me on board. It took me a few weeks to catch the first episode. I have tons of movie and shows in the queue. But after that first episode, I was hooked. I should’ve known. Anything with John Simm (Doctor Who, Prey) is going to be good, And with an impending tragic twist coming up (I was partially spoiled by youtube) I’m all-in on this one,

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Is Started to Feel Like The Rightful Successor To Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Just like Joss Whedon’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the new Netflix original The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina first comes off like another Young Adult TV series. But after the first episode, it could be something more. True, it feels like all the other CW shows, but there’s a secret darkness just underneath the surface that (I hope) will be something different. I’ve never seen it’s sister show, Riverdale. I don’t know if it’s also a supernatural show, and if Sabrina turns out to be good, I might backtrack and take in the whole Archie Universe.

Michaela Coel Gives an Impassioned and Inspirational James MacTaggart Lecture at the Edinburgh Festival

Michaela Coel chronicles her journey of being a creative in a harsh world. It’s wondrous how a lot of the creative journeys are so similar. The art of discovery and evaluation.. religions, racism, poverty.. it’s all there. It’s at times heartbreaking, but mostly inspirational.

Quote of the Moment: Julia Cameron

Those who speak in spiritual terms routinely refer to God as creator but seldom see "creator" as the literal term for "artist". I am suggesting you take the term "creator" quite literally. You are seeking to forge a creative alliance, artist-to-artist with the Great Creator. Accepting this concept can greatly expand your creative possibilities.

Comic Book Pull List: October 24th

Comic Book Pull List: October 24th

Matthew Rosenberg keeps impressing me on this run of The Punisher. This week, we see Frank Castle pairing up with Daredevil to stop a bunch of hired thugs on a train. Hydra’s out for Castles throat after he assassinated The Mandarin, the face of their new movement. It’s a great back in forth between the two heroes as Daredevil tries to keep Frank from killing and failing miserably. Plus, the cliffhanger has me ready for the next issue.

In other issues, this whole X-Men: Black limited series has been great. Focusing on mutant villains, we’ve gotten to see the struggle from their perspective. While the rest of the X-titles have been completely lackluster, this series as delivered big time. Spider-man’s Spider-geddon is rolling on and churning out tie-ins like crazy. I haven’t really gotten into it yet, but I loved previous event, so I’ll get to it. A couple more Bendis books rolled out, Scarlet and Action Comics, and I can’t figure out why I’m not more into these books. Especially the Superman titles. Max Bemis’ run on  Moon Knight comes to a close with issue #200. This is another series I thought was cool, but never really got around to reading. I’ve collected the whole run, through. So that’ll make good reading down the line.

Quote of The Year: Derren Brown

The stories we tell ourselves dictate the corners we fight from. One story tells us to protect our group and guard against outside threat, even at the expense of the disadvantaged. The opposite story tells us to protect the disadvantaged even at the expense of overall stability. Each side is convinced the other is mad or bad, yet it’s precisely in the dialogue between sides that we find truth and humanity flourishes. We can protect our groups and maintain compassion.

Black Lightning’s Back And Heavy On The Social Commentary

Black Lightning’s Back And Heavy On The Social Commentary

The CW’s 5th DC Comics series, Black Lightning shouldn’t be as good as it is. I think keeping itself initially cornered off from the rest of the Arrowverse has allowed them to tell socially pertinent stories (race, gangs, war, etc.). And after watching the second season’s first episode it looks like they’re going to stay smart and stay the course. Let’s hope lightning strikes twice.

Quote of The Moment: Tony Robbins

One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.
